The Walking In Love Foundation, Inc. was created May of 2011 in an effort to establish a comfortable, yet inviting arena for a young autistic male to overcome his social anxiety. Children with autism express anxiety or nervousness in many of the same ways as typically developing children do. Over the course of a year, Walking In Love Foundation, Inc. utilized various techniques such as cognitive behavioral and exposure therapies to identify the root of the individual’s fears and how to face those fears in a progressive manner. Within that year, our organization developed and participated in activities such as appropriate communication, exposure to diversity, multiculturalism and different ways of thinking.
In the Fall of 2012, Walking In Love Foundation, Inc. gained recognition from these efforts and began branching out by offering other services such as tutoring, academic advisement, and mentorship. From there, Walking In Love Foundation, Inc. recognized the importance of better serving the youth within our communities. Therefore, we sought to build meaningful relationships to fuel the mentoring movement.
Walking In Love Foundation, Inc. is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing mentoring and developmental programs aimed at educating youth ages 6 to 18 on professionalism and creating strong bonds between influential role models in the community. Within the downtown Atlanta and surrounding areas, Walking In Love Foundation, Inc. provides mentors, classes on maintaining mental health and etiquette. Our organization networks with local fraternity and sorority chapters on how to develop and maintain professional relationships. We collaborate with government officials so that our young people understand their role in political and civil awareness by informing them about voting, researching candidates, how representative government works, and as well discussing current political issues.
Walking In Love Foundation, Inc. partnered with the local health department to provide sex education workshops where the topics included sexual health, condom use and pregnancy. We also take our youth on bi-monthly outings to expose them to museums, parks, plays and cultural extravaganzas in addition to attending college and career fairs for our teenagers that are interesting pursuing higher education or moving into the workforce. Through our partnership with The Atlanta Chapter of Association of Black Social Workers, Walking In Love Foundation, Inc. has been able to donate school supplies to select students, churches, businesses (who held their own Back-To-School Drives) and academic institutions for 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 school years. The success of these events would not have been possible without the help from our community and contributions from our sponsors.
